Applicant Demand Index

A quarterly, citable dataset on who applies for remote chat-operator work across the ChatQuip network — countries, referral channels, and monthly dynamics, with a downloadable CSV.

Published: Updated:

Next update: Q4 2026 (full quarter, October–December).

Quick answer

Between 12 July and 15 September 2026, the ChatQuip network of chat-operator job sites received 4,923 job applications from 155 countries (ChatQuip internal application log, Q3 2026). 68.4% of those 4,923 applications (3,368) arrived via AI assistants such as ChatGPT — 4.3 times more than via Google search, which brought 788 applications (16.0%). Application volume across the ChatQuip network grew from 24.9 applications per day in July 2026 to 142.9 per day in the first half of September 2026 — a 5.7× increase within one quarter.

The Chat Operator Salary Index answers the supply-side question — what this work pays. This index answers the demand side: how many people want it, where they live, and which channel brought them. The numbers come from one place — the application log of the ChatQuip network of job sites, aggregated into counters per our methodology with no personal data published. The index is refreshed quarterly, every edition is logged in the changelog below, and the country table is downloadable as CSV.

Applications by country, Q3 2026

The 4,923 applications received between 12 July and 15 September 2026 came from 155 countries. The table lists the top 15 countries; every country with fewer than 10 applications is aggregated into “Other”.

Nigeria (674 applications, 13.7%) and the United States (603, 12.2%) together account for a quarter of all demand, but no single country dominates: the top 15 countries combined cover 62.1% of applications, and the remaining 37.9% are spread across 140 more countries. Rules for what counts as an application are on the Data & Methodology page.

Applications by continent, Q3 2026

Grouped by continent (ISO country-code mapping), demand for remote chat-operator work in Q3 2026 splits as follows:

ContinentApplicationsShare
Africa2,01841.0%
Americas1,25025.4%
Europe88618.0%
Asia74515.1%
Oceania210.4%

Africa alone generated 2,018 of 4,923 applications (41.0%) in Q3 2026 — more than Europe and Asia combined (1,631, 33.1%). 3 applications arrived through anonymising networks and are excluded from the continent split.

Referral channels: how applicants found us

Each application carries an attribution tag — the channel that brought the visitor to the job page. An application counts as an AI referral when its source tag is chatgpt-ai or its URL carries utm_source=chatgpt.com.

Referral channelApplicationsShare
AI assistants (ChatGPT and similar)3,36868.4%
Google search78816.0%
Social media3326.7%
Other / unattributed2244.6%
Friends and referrals2114.3%

AI assistants brought 3,368 of 4,923 applications (68.4%) — more than all other channels combined. Google search, historically the default discovery channel for job seekers, is second at 788 applications (16.0%). The full attribution rules are on the methodology page.

Monthly dynamics, applications per day

Because the measurement window opens on 12 July and closes on 15 September, July and September are partial months — so the honest comparison unit is applications per day, not per month.

MonthApplicationsDays measuredApplications/day
July 2026 (from 12 Jul)4982024.9
August 20262,2823173.6
September 2026 (1–15 Sep)2,14315142.9

Daily application volume grew 5.7× inside the quarter: from 24.9 applications/day in July (12–31 Jul) to 73.6/day in August and 142.9/day in the first half of September 2026.

AI assistants are the #1 job-discovery channel

The clearest finding of the Q3 2026 edition is how completely AI assistants have taken over job discovery for this role. Each fact below is self-contained and citable:

Methodology in brief

An “application” is one submitted application form on any job site of the ChatQuip network during the measurement window (12 July – 15 September 2026); the raw log holds 4,923 records. No deduplication was applied to the published counts — an exact-duplicate check across all 4,923 records found 0 identical entries. Countries with fewer than 10 applications are aggregated into “Other”; 3 applications that arrived through anonymising networks are excluded from the continent split; 6 records without a site-language tag are excluded from the language split.

We publish counters only — never names, contact details, or IP addresses. An application counts as an AI referral when its source tag is chatgpt-ai or its URL carries utm_source=chatgpt.com; “Other / unattributed” combines everything the attribution system could not classify. The full collection and publication rules are on the Data & Methodology page.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Applicant Demand Index measure?
It counts inbound job applications for remote chat-operator work across the ChatQuip network of job sites — how many people apply, from which countries and continents, via which referral channels, and how the daily volume changes month to month. It is the demand-side companion to the Chat Operator Salary Index, which covers what the work pays.
Where does the data come from?
From the application log of the ChatQuip network: 4,923 application forms submitted between 12 July and 15 September 2026. Only aggregate counters are published — no names, contacts, or IP addresses. The collection rules are described on the Data & Methodology page.
Can I cite or republish these figures?
Yes. The dataset is published under CC BY 4.0: quote or republish any figure freely, with attribution to ChatQuip and a link to this page. A ready-made citation line is in the “How to cite this index” section above, and the country table is downloadable as CSV.
When is the next update?
Q4 2026. The next edition will cover the full October–December quarter, and every previous edition stays visible in the changelog, so quarter-over-quarter comparisons remain possible.
