This index exists because most salary numbers for chat work online are either guesses or ads. Ours come from one place: ChatQuip's own payout records, collected since 2018 across operators in 40+ countries, anonymised and published per our methodology. The index is refreshed quarterly, every edition is logged in the changelog below, and the full table is downloadable as CSV — cite it, chart it, or check it against any offer you've been shown.
Salary by grade, Q3 2026

Bands are rounded ranges, not exact salaries — where an individual lands inside a band depends on hours, shift consistency, and platform mix. The full rules for how these figures are collected and rounded are on the Data & Methodology page; the reader-friendly walkthrough with worked examples lives on the salary page.
Market context
ChatQuip figures describe ChatQuip operators, so here is how they sit against public numbers for adjacent remote roles. Indeed's salary page for customer service representatives puts the US average around $19/hour — steady pay, but on fixed shifts and usually country-restricted hiring. Indeed's moderator salary data shows open listings typically at $10–18/hour, with full-time averages running higher.
Read the comparison with the structural difference in mind: those roles pay per hour on set schedules, while ChatQuip operators earn inside monthly grade bands on hours they choose (4-hour minimum per day). That is why we publish monthly bands rather than an hourly rate — the honest unit for this kind of work is what a month actually pays. More numbers on the operator population — demographics, hours, payouts — are in our remote chat work statistics. This index covers the supply side — what the work pays; the demand side — who applies, from where, and via which channels — is in the Applicant Demand Index.
Hiring funnel behind the data
Every operator in this dataset came through the same funnel, which keeps the population consistent from quarter to quarter:
- Application and screening. A short application (name, contact, English level). The HR team reviews it and replies within 24 hours.
- Interview. A 20-minute conversation to check written English (B1+) and expectations — no tests, no fees.
- Training and first paid shifts. Free training takes 5–10 days, and new operators start paid shifts within 14 days of applying. Trainees earn $250–$400 while learning.
The screening side of this funnel is run by Elena Marchenko, ChatQuip's Head of HR, who has conducted 1,200+ operator interviews — her answers to the 16 questions candidates ask most are in Ask the Recruiter, and the step-by-step version is on the how it works page.
